Do you sometimes find that you have doubts about your ability or self worth?
Does a quiet voice of insecurity inside your head sometimes ask “can I really do this?”.
Even when we have all the skills required to do something, we can find ourselves wondering if we really have what it takes. But in business confidence is key. If we don’t believe in ourselves, our ability and our product or service, can we really expect our prospects and customers to believe in us?
To strengthen self belief, we ask many of our clients to write what we call “I AM STATEMENTS”. This involves simply finishing the sentence “I am …” with a description of yourself as you want to be. Some examples are:
I am a successful entrepreneur with a thriving business
I am a patient and loving parent
I am an energetic person who prioritises and enjoys exercise
In your subconscious mind is a goal-striving mechanism called the Reticular Activating System, which has the job of proving that what you believe and say about yourself is true.
While you go about your day, your subconscious filters what you experience about the world through your five senses. Your Reticular Activating System highlights information that supports your beliefs, finding evidence to prove that you are right.
So if you believe you aren’t a successful business leader, it will focus on information to support that belief. If you believe that you are a patient and loving parent, it will let through details that show that to be true, blocking out other information.
Stating your identity in positive terms with I Am Statements means that you focus on who you want to become and find evidence of it, elevating your self esteem and confidence, leading to more success.
At Yellow Coaching, we know there’s more to business, professional and personal success than simply ‘doing’. How we see ourselves effects the goals we set, our determination, and our chances of success.
